From September 15th to 21st, ICMM(International Congress of Maritime Museums)Congress 2024 was held in Belgium and the Netherlands. In order to implement the internationalization development strategy and promote international exchanges of maritime culture, Mr. Zhao Feng, Director of China Maritime Museum, led a team to attend the conference and gave speeches.
The conference attracted more than 200 directors, curators, researchers and professionals in the field of maritime affairs from more than 100 maritime museums and related associations, universities, research institutes, foundations and other organizations from Europe, America, Australia, Asia, Africa and other regions. In the five-day session, participants joined in discussion upon five topics, namely “Blue Ocean & the Marine Environment”, “Museum Ships & Maritime Heritage”, “Maritime Crafts & Skills in Museums”, “People and the Sea” and “Maritime Museums as Activists”.
Mr. Zhao Feng, Director of Maritime Museum, introduced the Maritime Museum Committee of China Museum Association to the participants in the plenary session of “Global Maritime Museum Network”, and gave speech on Maritime Museums for Protecting and Inheriting Traditional Watercrafts Heritage in the plenary session of “Museum Ships and Maritime Heritage”. He explained the necessity and significance of the protection and inheriting of traditional watercraft heritage in China’s maritime museums, as well as the practice and thinking of China Maritime Museum, and putting forward suggestions on the international exchanges and cooperation of watercraft heritage.
During the conference, the delegation exchanged views with representatives of maritime museums, and communicated preliminary cooperation intentions in protection of watercraft heritage, exhibition exchange, cultivation of young talents, and joint organization of international conferences, etc.
