On November 12th, “Shipping in Jiangnan: Exhibition of Water Transportation History and Culture in the Yangtze River Delta” opened in China Maritime Museum and will last until February 18th, 2025. This exhibition is hosted by China Maritime Museum, getting joint support from 12 museums in the Yangtze River Delta, as well as experts and collectors in the related fields.
The exhibition gathers more than 200 pieces of precious exhibits and is divided into four chapters, namely Collation of Ships and Oars, Accessibility of Ports and Harbors, Prosperity of Commerce and Trade, Floating Families and Drifting Abodes. From the perspective of water transportation, the exhibition tells the story of shipping in the Jiangnan region, which is nourished by the Yangtze River and boats. This exhibition not only shows ships, port and shipping, commerce and society, culture and art in Jiangnan region, but also illustrates the historical origins of shipping and transportation in the Yangtze River Delta region, which provides cultural support for China’s national strategies of ocean, transportation and shipping, and serves the integrated development of the Yangtze River Delta and the construction of the Shanghai International Shipping Center.
