The Hall of Ocean in China Maritime Museum, jointly designed by China Maritime Museum and Shanghai Municipal Oceanic Bureau, formally opened on November 11, 2021. It is the first permanent exhibition hall about natural science since the establishment of the museum.
The exhibition hall consists of “Blue planet”, “Diversified Creatures”, “Underwater Treasure House” and “Marine Environment Protection”, popularizing marine science and humanistic knowledge from aspects of marine geography, marine life, marine development and marine protection, etc.
The exhibition hall displays about 100 species of precious marine specimen, such as Arctic wolves, emperor penguins, hawksbill turtles, clams, corals, and Antarctic krill. It also covers over 400 exhibits, such as sea water collected from four oceans in the world and four seas of China, antarcticite, the flag of the 12th Arctic Scientific Expedition Team and the ship model of Xuelong 2.
