On September 28th, “A Date With Fishing Boats: Special Exhibition on the Fishing Cultures of China’s Ethnic Minorities” officially kicked off at China Maritime Museum (CMM). Guided by the Shanghai Municipal Transportation Commission and Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Ethnic and Religious Affairs, the exhibition is co-hosted by China Maritime Museum, Guangxi Museum of Nationalities, and Yunnan Nationalities Museum.
Centered on the theme of “diversity within unity”, the exhibition vividly presents the unique fishing cultures of ethnic minorities through more than 200 exquisite cultural relics. It is divided into six sections, namely, “The Fish-Skin Tribe Living by the Ussuri River”, “Oroqen on the Khingan Range”, “Guardians of the Frontier who drive Mongolian Wagons”, “Jing Who Fish in the Sea”, “Pioneers in Yunnan-a Province with Colorful Clouds” and “Chinese People Long Inhabiting in Taiwan”. These sections showcase the extraordinary wisdom of various ethnic groups in fishery production, boat building, and folk beliefs.
The exhibition will last until March 9, 2026. During this period, a series of academic lectures and diverse social education activities will be held, offering a window for visitors to gain an in-depth understanding of fishing cultures and ethnic cultures.
