In order to serve the Belt and Road Initiative, the exhibition “Encounter: Chinese Portraits on Export Commodities of Ming and Qing Dynasties” opened in China Maritime Museum on October 28th, 2023. The exhibition will last until February 28th, 2024.

The exhibition is divided into three parts, namely “Conjecture: The Mysterious Chinese Images”, “Obsession: The Enchanting Chinoiserie”, and “Manifestation: All Walks of Life of Qing Dynasty”. The exhibition narrates the convergence between Chinese and foreign civilizations through the ancient Maritime Silk Road by Chinese portraits on export commodities. Audience could understand exchanges and mutual learning among civilizations and the coexistence of diversity in the world.
