Situated next to the Taiwan Strait, where the East and South China Seas meet, Fujian has experienced a development history to the sea for thousands of years. Her main ports of Quanzhou, Fuzhou, and Zhangzhou played roles of importance as starting points of Maritimes Slik Road in the history.
Serves as a trading and commercial intermediary between ancient east and west. The maritime Silk Road were routes of peace and humanity for cultural and artistic exchange. Followed with commercial activities on the Maritime Silk Road, influences from ancient Persia, Arabia, India, and Southeast Asia spread widely throughout Fujian, and merged with Central Plain culture and Minyue culture of that period to cultivate and develop a distinctively Minnanese culture. This exhibition, jointly hosted by China Maritime Museum and the Fujian Museum, presents to visitors the unique historical position of Fujian along the ancient Maritime Silk Road and the splendid culture that it spawned.
