Supported by the Donghai Branch of the National Bureau of Oceanography and Shanghai Municipal Oceanic Administration and jointly organized by Shanghai Science Association and China Maritime Museum, “Ocean, Our Homeland”, the Shanghai Teenagers DIY Series Contest was held at CMM on September 18th, 2010. Over 400 contestants from Shanghai were selected to participate in the “Future Sea Cities”—Man-Made Island Creative Model Designing and Manufacturing Contest, Solar-Powered Vessel Models Linear Racing Contest, Wooden Bridge Load Bearing Contest, Warship Model Linear Racing Contest and “Imagination of Future Sea Cities” Juvenile Science Fiction Painting Exhibition.
In the contest site, the many innovative models of man-made islands, unique solar-powered ship models and paintings with enthusiastic and bold imagination of future sea cities were really dazzling the visitors.

CMM’s party secretary and vice president An Chengyao made a speech at the ceremony.
This year’s contest was the eighth series contest since it started in 2003. As a sea science popular event combining entertainment with education, it has become a brand one for the Shanghai teenagers. This successful event at CMM has further demonstrated CMM’s function of social and patriotic education.
